Javelin thrower John Ampomah was born on 11 July 1990 in Accra, Ghana. His personal record is 83.09 metres, which is also the Ghanaian national record. He will make his Olympic debut in Rio in 2016.
Ampomah qualified for the Olympics after setting a personal record of 83.09 metres at the Soga-Nana Memorial in Cape Coast, Ghana.
He won his first international medal (silver) at the eighteenth edition of the Africa Senior Championships in 2012. He also took home silver at the All Africa Games in Congo-Brazzaville and the twentieth edition of the Africa Senior Championships in South Africa.
